I feel so so blessed and thankful that my mom was able to come visit. She left a few days ago, but we had an amazing week! I did have school so she took little day trips until I was out and we could meet up. We did SO much in one week, it's hard to remember everything but I kept little notes as we went.
SATURDAY (Nov. 18)
- met at airport at 7am
- back to hotel to nap for a bit
- breakfast then bus to Cork
- connecting bus in Cork to Blarney
- walked up huge hill to our first b&b (Ashcroft- very nice!), checked in, and got a lift to the castle
- explored castle, kissed Blarney Stone!, shopped at Blarney Woolen Mills, dinner at Lemon Tree
- cab back to b&b, in bed by 9:30
SUNDAY
- breakfast at b&b, cab to bus station, bus to Killarney
- another bus to Dingle
- b&b (Greenmount House- favorite!)
- awesome room with great view
- arranged quick tour with John O'Connor - awesome! Saw lots of the peninsula
- dinner at Dingle Peninsula Hotel
- walked around, shopped, back to b&b, bed early again
MONDAY
- back in Galway
- great b&b (recommended by the Poteruchas) Petra House
- went by my apt then shopping
- got original claddagh ring and necklace from Thomas Dillon's!!
- dinner at McDonaghs- crazy that we ate here because this was my mom's very Irish friend Sr. Frances' last name and we found out later she passed away close to the same time we were there
- walk to St. Mary's Church, Claddagh area, by the bay, and the Long Walk
- drinks at Kings Head with some of my friends
- walked back to b&b
TUESDAY
- mom went to Connemara!
- she left phone on bus so had to run to two different bus stations to get it
- taco tuesday with my friends
- Taaffes!
WEDNESDAY
- mom went to Aran islands- cold and rainy (welcome to the REAL Ireland! I told her all the nice weather was not normal)
- dinner and drinks at Dail Pub
THURSDAY
- Thanksgiving!
- shopping, said goodbye to Petra House (We loved Frank!)
- Bunratty Castle for Medieval Banquet: had mead (google this if you want to know where the word 'honeymoon' came from), listened to harp & violin, traditional bread and salt (called "bite of friendship"), down to dining hall, sat by nice people, had 4 courses: soup, ribs, chicken potatoes veggies, dessert (could only use spear aka knife, no forks or spoons!), and all the water an wine we wanted, awesome performance afterwards
- was sad missing Thanksgiving at home but going to a feast at a castle in Ireland with my mom definitely made up for it!
FRIDAY
- Cliffs of Moher- freezing and crazy windy, but beautiful
- bus to Ennis then another back to Bunratty
- saw castle and folk village
- bus to Shannon airport hotel
SATURDAY
- early breakfast
- walked over with her to airport then had to say goodbye =(
- bus back to Galway
It was a WONDERFUL week! Love you, mom!
